My Pain is Real… Our Pain is Real…

This piece is about my struggle with endometriosis. While I’m not yet fully diagnosed, this condition has been the only reasonable explanation that I have received from a medical stand point about the pain I experience daily.

The piece is a soft sculpture made from different materials, strictly using a red and pink colour palette to represent Fallopian tubes. The stitching has been done entirely by hand because in some situations of endometriosis a patient may need to have an operation and afterwards the doctor wouldn’t use a sewing machine to complete the stitches, they’re all done by hand. I have used cement blocks and clamps as a representation of the pain I feel, but have also spoken to others with the same condition that feel the same.

The sculpture is making an attempt to escape this pain, however there is no cure for endometriosis and so it wont ever escape that pain. It may get a brief break, but the pain will never really end.
